Licensure Support
Educators, including teachers, support personnel, and administrators are required to hold a license issued by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education in order to be eligible to teach in Massachusetts Public Schools.

MTEL Prep Support and ESL Mentoring
The BPS MTEL Prep Program offers preparation courses with small group and individual coaching sessions for many of the most challenging MTELs.
Passing the MTEL is often the last and most difficult step for educators seeking licensure advancement.
The BPS MTEL Prep Program provides the knowledge and confidence educators need to pass their exams. Participants attend prep courses for a specific MTEL, they are supported with a small group or individual study sessions in preparation for taking their test.

Pathways
The Pathway Programs are intensive, accelerated, and affordable professional development programs that prepare participants for educator licenses issued by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education and for professional teaching practice. The programs are designed to equip participants with the foundational knowledge, instructional skills, and dispositions necessary for effective teaching. In addition, the Pathway seminars meet the “coverage area requirements” for licensure.

Degree Completion Opportunities
Any BPS employee who is in need of completing their degree and/or earning a Master’s Degree which includes a pathway to licensure can enroll with one of our two higher education partners at an employee discount. They offer an undergraduate degree completion program and a wide variety of graduate degree programming. There are also scholarships available specifically for Black and Latinx educators.

ParaPro Test Support
The ParaPro Test Program supports candidates by preparing them to take the ParaPro Assessment and start their journey to becoming paraprofessionals in our classrooms.
The ParaPro Assessment tests general aptitude, assessing Math, Writing, and Reading skills. Participants in these test prep classes will gain study skills and access to online resources to prepare for the test. They will also have access to BPS coaches and testing experts, offering individualized coaching and office hours.
The ParaPro Program offers participants follow through with candidates after completion to help them sign up for the test and to secure a paraprofessional job.
