    Greetings Families! We know that success for our students rests upon a strong partnership with our families. As such, this page is dedicated to keeping you informed with an expanding list of resources that we hope you will find valuable. Please also feel free to suggest a resource that we should include.


    Family Organizations
    Rogers School Parent Council
    All parents/guardians of students attending the Rogers Middle School are members of the Parent Council and are welcome and encouraged to join our monthly meetings. Each month the Rogers School Parent Council meets between the hours of 6:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. to discuss issues that support and enhance the academic and social initiatives for students, resources and opportunities for families, and policies and procedures that contribute to the safe and orderly functioning of the school. The Rogers School Parent Council is one way to be involved in your child's education and to contribute to the overall school community.

    Rogers School Site Council
    Parents are elected to serve on the Rogers School Site Council. Elected parents meet monthly with elected teachers and the Principal to make decisions about how the school will function, how resources will be allocated, and to set priorities for the school year.





    PARTNERS:

    SERPStrategic Education Research Partnership

    SERP’s missionis to conduct a program of “use-inspired” research and development, with a goal of developing, testing, and mobilizing effective programs and practices. Problems of student achievement, and the practices that support it, are at center stage in determining the research and development agenda. The work places as much emphasis on follow-through to link knowledge and products as on research. Much of the research is carried out in classrooms, where innovative materials, methods, professional development, and organizational supports are developed, tested, honed, and taken to scale.
    • Researchers at Harvard University and SERP, in collaboration with the Boston Public Schools, are developing a program namedWord Generationfor building the academic language middle school students need to comprehend subject area texts, develop and support arguments, and write persuasive essays. The program is now undergoing a controlled field study in three sites across the country.
    • A multi-year collaboration between SERP, BPS, the Boston Plan for Excellence, and faculty from Wheelock College and Harvard University is producing theStrategic Adolescent Reading Intervention(STARI), aimed at accelerating reading fluency; learning to decode words with challenging spelling patterns; and developing comprehension strategies, all the while delivering core content that meets state and district standards.
    City Stage Co.
    City Stage Co. offers urban children, youth and families opportunities to participate in the performing arts, so they can make discoveries about themselves and the world. We do this through performing, educating and collaborating.

    • City Stage Co. has been in-residence at the Rogers Middle School since 1984, providing drama, music, dance and visual arts.SpoLitat the Rogers, a program that pairs our artist/educators with classroom teachers, uses the model created by Brown University Arts-In-Literacy Project to bring best practices in education and in social research together as a basis for strengthening student performance in both academics and the arts. The Spotlit Program is supported with an Arts Expansion Grant from Edvestors.
    Boston Partners in Education
    Founded in 1966, Boston Partners in Education enhances the academic achievement and nurtures the personal growth of Boston's public school students by providing them with focused, individualized in-school volunteer support.
    • Since 2004,The Big Cheese Readshas been connecting business and community leaders with middle school students in order to emphasize the important link between literacy and career success. Since its inception, nearly 250 corporate and community leaders have gone back into the classroom to support the initiative. Big Cheese readers visit a middle school classroom once during the school year to read a short selection aloud to the class, give a brief personal account of the ways reading and learning have impacted their lives and career achievements, and respond to questions from the students.
    The Boston Celtics Stay in School
    The Boston Celtics Stay in School program is presented by Arbella Insurance and is a collaboration of efforts from the Celtics, the New England Sports Museum, the Northeastern University Center for the Study of Sport in Society and the Boston Public Schools.Based on the premise that children are influenced by sports figures, the Stay in School program uses athletes to encourage good attendance, which plays an instrumental role in determining future scholastic success.

     

    • Students are rewarded each month for perfect attendance and on-time arrival for school. In addition to this, students are encouraged to strengthen their writing skills by submitting essays on given topics, as well as submit art drawings.At the end of each year, the top 1,000 students are honored for their attendance and academic accomplishments at a celebration. Participation includes 27 public middle schools in Boston in grades six, seven, and eight.
