• Welcome to the Higginson-Lewis

    School Description

The Higginson-Lewis 3-8 School is located in the Roxbury section of Boston. The school is easily accessible by public transportation. The school consists of the former Henry L. Higginson and George A. Lewis Schools, which merged in September 2009 to become the Higginson-Lewis 3-8 School. The schoolyard was landscaped, some classrooms painted and storage space was built for students. The parents, teachers, and students take pride in the appearance of the school and have maintained a safe and comfortable working environment and play area.

Our school is a community-based, family-oriented, full-service school with a strong academic focus. Our modernized building includes a gymnasium, cafeteria, and auditorium, all of which are used to enhance our academic offerings.

    Emphasis on Music and Arts

We place a strong emphasis on music and arts, believing that creative expression is a vital component of a well-rounded education. Students in all grade levels have access to a variety of instruments to support their musical development. In grades 3-5, students are introduced to foundational music concepts through general music classes and have the opportunity to explore instruments like recorders and various percussion instruments. As they advance to grades 6-8, our students can join the school band and orchestra, with access to a wide range of instruments, including brass (trumpet, trombone), woodwinds (flute, clarinet, saxophone), strings (violin, viola, cello), and percussion. We also offer a vibrant choral program for all grade levels to encourage vocal performance and appreciation.
