Boston Public Library locations offer free after-school homework help and mentorship provided by high-achieving high school students and BTU tutors.
Our school uses Talking Points and Parent Square for communications with families. We recommend downloading both of these apps to your mobile phone, but you can still communicate with us without the apps. Talking Points is similar to texting and allows families to send direct messages to staff members. You will receive and be able to respond to communications from staff through your texting application if you do not have the app. We send mass communications such as grade level announcements or information about school events via Parent Square. You can receive these notifications via email or text if you do not have the app. Please ensure your phone number and email address are correct so that you do not miss school communications.
If you would like to check if the correct address, email, and/or phone number is on file, please speak with our school secretaries, Ms. Karina Rivera-Sosa (Lower Campus: 617-635-8131) or Ms. Candida Cruz (Upper Campus: 617-635-8073). They can also assist you in updating contact information for people authorized to pick up your student or to serve as emergency contacts if you cannot be reached. If any of your family's contact information is incorrect, Ms. Rivera-Sosa or Ms. Cruz can help you make changes in our system.
Room Champions
The Sumner school is building a room champion program where parents/guardians can assist homeroom teachers with classroom communications related to class activities and events (non-confidential information only). Room champions can also help amplify messages and events from the school family liaisons, specialists, Sumner School Family Council, and School Site Council. Room champions for each class will have unique opportunities to engage in activities supporting your child’s class, organize meetups for families outside of school and assist with volunteer efforts. Please contact Jess Manna (jess.manna@gmail.com) to express your interest or for more information!
